Three drivers will appear in court after they were caught racing each other at McLaren Vale.
Police will allege that about 8.42 pm on Sunday 6 June, a speed camera was deployed on Main Road where a Holden Commodore wagon, a Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback and a Holden Commodore sedan were detected travelling south in quick succession at speeds between 135km/h and137 km/h in an 80km/h zone.
The camera operator provided the registrations and vehicle details to other patrols in the area. The three vehicles were all stopped a short time later in Aldinga Beach.
It will be alleged the three drivers all knew each other, all held provisional licences and had a passenger in each vehicle. All three vehicles were defected for serious safety issues. The Holden Commodore sedan was driven with the exhaust system removed and a lowered suspension which affects the handling of the vehicle.
The Holden Commodore wagon was also defected due to bald tyres and a lowered suspension.
The Mitsubishi Mirage was defected due to the exhaust also being removed and the driver’s seat and front passenger seat not being anchored to the vehicle correctly. It will be alleged the front passenger seat was attached to the vehicle with a ratchet strap.
A 19-year-old man from Hackham, an 18-year-old man from Aldinga Beach and a 17-year-old boy from Morphett Vale were all reported for aggravated engage in street race, driving at excessive speed and breaching the conditions of their provisional licences.
All three vehicles were impounded for 28 days and the drivers will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
