The plan sets out the priority actions Australian, state and territory governments will take over the next three years under each of the Strategy’s nine priority areas :
- Infrastructure planning and investment – governments designing a future focused safe system
- Regional road safety – governments of all levels planning and implementing network-wide safety improvements
- Remote road safety – governments of all levels planning and implementing network-wide safety improvements
- Vehicle safety – pursuing technological improvements and uptake of safer vehicles
- Heavy vehicle safety – supporting safe movement of freight and passengers and reduce harm to all road users
- Workplace road safety – enabling organisations to take responsibility for vehicles and roads as a workplace
- Improving road safety outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Vulnerable road users – provide safe access for all road users
- Risky road use – increasing community awareness of risky road use through education and enforcement
Several enabling actions will also be delivered through the Action Plan to support the nine priority areas. Focus areas for the enabling actions include:
- Improved national road safety data availability
- Better coordinated national road safety research
- Improved governance and reporting
- Supporting local governments.
The Action Plan was released on the National Road Safety Strategy website on 7 February, following an joint announcement by Minister King and Assistant Minister Brown.
