Mildura Rural City Council has released its 15-year blueprint for the future of the thriving Irymple township.
The Irymple Structure Plan and Urban Design Framework 2021-2036 (the plan) is now in its final stage of public consultation, revealing some of the key themes to come out of previous rounds of community consultation, as well as the proposed roadmap for Irymple’s future.
The plan focuses on the area bounded by Sandilong and Morpung Avenues and Fourteenth and Sixteenth Streets.
It aims to guide future changes to land use as well as addressing future community needs in terms of housing, social services and public spaces.
Mildura Mayor Jason Modica thanked residents and other stakeholders who had provided their input so far.
“A key part of developing any plan or vision for a town is ensuring it reflects the thoughts, aspirations and needs of the residents and groups who live, work or travel through the area,” Cr Modica said.
“The feedback we’ve received has provided us with this information which has been invaluable in developing this roadmap for how Irymple will look in 15 years’ time.”
Two rounds of public consultation in September last year and December/January provided Council with residents’ and stakeholders’ vision for the future of Irymple.
- It will be a well-defined and self-sufficient town that is distinct from Mildura
- It will provide safe and purposeful connections for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists
- It will be a sustainable and greener town with consideration for its unique weather conditions.
With this vision in mind and based on the themes and ideas from the two consultation stages, four main precincts have been identified within the Irymple area:
Town Centre Precinct
Provides a range of public services, such as allied health, speciality stores, grocery stores, offices, housing, restaurants and bulky goods.
Community Precinct
Provides recreation, leisure and sports facilities, such as a dog park, a BMX track, a new soccer pitch and additional spaces for passive recreation within the Council Drainage Reserve land.
Industrial Precinct
The existing precinct will be maintained as it is without any expansion.
Residential Precinct
New residential precincts will be developed to the north of Fifteenth Street in accordance with the Mildura Housing and Settlement Strategy 2013 report.
The plan includes 21 short, medium and long term actions to achieve the broader long-term vision for Irymple.
