Robbery and Serious Crime Squad charge additional man over alleged Smithfield kidnapping

A man will face court today; a further person charged by Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives over an alleged kidnapping in Sydney’s west earlier this year.

About 5.20am on Thursday 9 March 2023, police allege that a group of armed men forced entry to a home on Brenan Street, Smithfield, where they grabbed a 26-year-old man and forced him into a vehicle.

They fled the scene and police were notified a short time later. The man was held hostage until he was rescued by police on Tuesday 14 March 2023.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad – assisted by Fairfield City Police Area Command – established Strike Force Kkuoa to investigate the incident.

Six people are already before the courts in relation to this incident.

Following further inquiries, detectives arrested a 22-year-old man at Granville Police Station about 7.40pm yesterday (Thursday 26 October 2023).

The man was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent and take/detain in company with intent to ransom occasion actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Friday 27 October 2023).

Investigations under Strike Force Kkuoa continue.
