Robbery on University footbridge, South Australia

Police are investigating after a man was robbed of his wallet near the River Torrens overnight.

At 11.15pm on Friday 12 July, the man was walking across the University footbridge, near Victoria Drive, Adelaide, when he was approached by an unknown man who threatened him and demanded his wallet.

A struggle ensued and the victim was assaulted, receiving injuries to his face.

The suspect ran off with the victim’s wallet, which contained a credit card. Police and paramedics attended and the victim was taken by ambulance to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment.

The stolen card was immediately used to make a small purchase at a North Adelaide store, but was quickly cancelled by the owner, thwarting further attempts to use the card.

Police searched the area along the Torrens and North Adelaide, but were unable to locate the suspect. It is believed he walked up O’Connell Street and may have entered several businesses.

The suspect is described as a man wearing a grey hooded puffer jacket and black pants.

Anyone who saw this man last night or who has any information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
