Rockliff goes weak at knees 06 February 2024

Premier Jeremy Rockliff appears to have gone into hiding after his attempts at being the tough guy were shot down by Lara Alexander on Friday, before being walked back by his ‘loyal’ deputy on Saturday.

The Premier’s retreat from his Friday morning bravado raises a number of questions:

Why is he pretending Lara Alexander’s comments didn’t happen?

Has he become so weak he can’t follow through on his word and call and election now?

Has he gone cold because Michael Ferguson wasn’t happy? The ‘loyal’ deputy certainly poured cold water on his Premier’s bluff and bluster when he went out to mop up the mess on Saturday.

Does the Premier even have enough candidates to call an election if he wanted to? A few have been announced with little fanfare, including conservative powerbroker Eric Abetz but they’re still around twenty candidates short.

These questions all lead to a bigger question – who’s actually in charge of this chaotic situation?

It certainly doesn’t look like the Premier is. Maybe John Tucker isn’t the only one holding him to ransom.
