Mayor Steve Christou is calling on residents to lend a hand this Clean up Australia Day, with Cumberland City Council inviting the community to join its annual event at the Holroyd Gardens, in Merrylands on Sunday, 7 March 2021 from 8:30am.
“As a council that has been named one of the State’s most ‘Sustainable Cities,’ our staff perform an excellent job in maintaining our city,” Mayor Steve Christou said.
“However, I passionately believe that reducing litter is everyone’s responsibility, so let’s do our part and make Cumberland City a great place to live.
“Clean Up Australia Day is a great catalyst for inspiring and empowering communities to clean up, fix up and conserve our environment.
“I encourage residents to come down to Holroyd Gardens to help protect one of our much-loved local parks and enjoy a free BBQ. Alternatively, you can get involved by registering for an event with Clean Up Australia.”
In addition to Clean Up Australia Day, Council has recently launched a campaign to reduce litter by installing new signage and bins in public areas. Mayor Christou said Council will continue working towards a cleaner and greener city.
“We know that Australia’s waste challenges can’t be solved in one day. It’s about taking pride in our parks, streets and suburbs by keeping them clean,” he said.
“By doing our bit and taking on practical solutions, we can help live more sustainably every day of the year.”
