Rolling into a New Era: Barwon Heads Bowling Club Upgraded Pavilion Unveiled

The recently upgraded Barwon Heads Bowling Club Pavilion was officially opened today by Federal Member for Corangamite Libby Coker, Mayor Trent Sullivan, State Member for Bellarine Alison Marchant, Councillor Elise Wilkinson and Lawrie Stendt, Barwon Heads Bowls Club President.

The $1.2 million upgrade project was made possible thanks to the Australian Government’s funding contribution of $500,000 matched by an equal funding commitment from the City of Greater Geelong, as well as $200,000 from the Victorian Government.

Features of the upgraded pavilion include:

  • a new social area
  • kitchen
  • office
  • storage space
  • an outdoor undercover verandah for spectators

Federal Member for Corangamite Libby Coker

The Barwon Heads Bowling Club holds more than 50 years of lawn bowls history.

So many trophies have been celebrated here, and so many friendships formed, and with the federal government’s contribution of $500,000 towards a new pavilion, this club will be an important part of our region’s sporting fabric for many years to come.

It signals a renewal of the club and sends a clear message – sports clubs are the lifeblood of our region, and our communities deserve modern facilities.

Greater Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan

The redeveloped Barwon Heads Bowling Club will support the demands of sporting and community groups using the precinct.

This upgrade was made possible through a collaborative effort between Council, the Australian and Victorian governments.

The upgrade will mean the club can recruit new members, not only from Barwon Heads, but also from surrounding communities such as the rapidly developing Armstrong Creek.

Member for Bellarine Alison Marchant

The completion of the new pavilion creates a wonderful gathering place that the Barwon Heads Bowling Club and community can be proud of.

The clubrooms are inviting and will encourage new members, while players and spectators can enjoy the facilities they require to enjoy the physical and social aspects of bowls.
