Routine disclosure on State Service employees published

Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

As promised, a routine disclosure providing an update on the assessment and actions by relevant heads of Agencies of Tasmanian State Service employees referred to in the Commission of Inquiry Report has been published.

The Tasmanian Government is committed to increasing transparency in the state service by making more information publicly available.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the disclosure outlines actions by Heads of Agency with regard to current and former State Service employees and employees who may be alleged perpetrators referred to in the Commission’s Report.

It also includes, an update of the assessment by Heads of Agency of current and former State Service employees referred to in the COI report.

“The disclosure also includes an update of assessment and actions by the Commissioner of Tasmania Police in relation to current and former Police officers,” he said.

“The report will be updated monthly until all actions are complete.

“As I have said repeatedly, strong action has already been taken and will continue to be taken to ensure Tasmanian children and young people are safe and well in our care.

“I want victim-survivors and the broader Tasmanian community to have confidence that we are acting decisively in our response to the Commission’s concerns and we have investigated all allegations.

“We are also leaving no stone unturned when it comes to ensuring all issues identified in the Commission of Inquiry report are addressed.”

In addition to the disclosure, the Tasmanian Government has appointed former Australian Public Service Commissioner, Mr Peter Woolcott, AO to conduct an independent review of all the actions taken by Heads of Agencies in response to the information and concerns raised by the COI regarding state service employees.

“The task ahead of us is significant as we implement the Commission’s recommendations and ensure the failures of past governments and its institutions are never again repeated,” Premier Rockliff said.

As committed during the COI Scrutiny hearings this week, an annual report will be tabled in 2024. This was a recommendation of the Commission of Inquiry, and will be brought forward two years earlier.

The report can be viewed on the Department of Premier and Cabinet website.
