Rugby Australia congratulates Australia Day 2022 Honours recipients

Rugby Australia has paid tribute to six worthy members of the Rugby community who have today been acknowledged for their contribution to the sport and their local community with Australia Day Honours.

Two recipients were awarded Members of the general division (AM) headlined by former Rugby Australia Board Member and former World Rugby Council Member, Mr Peter McGrath.

While the late Mr Terrance Willis was also posthumously bestowed the honour for his active involvement in both the Australian and International Rugby community for over twenty years as a Judicial officer.

Former Nick Farr-Jones Spirit of Rugby Award winner, Mr Peter ‘Doubles’ Daley was also acknowledged on the honour role being awarded a Medal of the Order in recognition of nearly fifty years of fundraising for his local club, Souths Magpies and the broader Queensland Rugby community.

Here, Doubles is estimated to have sold over 340,000 raffle tickets, with all the funds going back into the community club during this time.

Former Wallaby turned legislator, Mr David Dunworth, was also recognised with an OAM for both his involvement in the professional game and his service to the community through the Brothers Rugby Club in Queensland, acting as a club president and chairman.

Meanwhile, Mr Brian Rudder and Mr Kim Beresford of NSW rounded out Rugby’s Honour list, awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to the community and Rugby Union.

Additionally, current Rugby Australia Board Director Dr Jane Wilson was also recognised as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for her services to business, government, health, aged care and education.

Rugby Australia Chief Executive Andy Marinos said: “There are countless people in our Rugby community, just like those who have received AustraliaDay Honours today, have contributed a huge part of their lives to our game.

“On behalf of the entire Australian Rugby community, I want to congratulate our six recipients and their families and offer the games thanks for the special contributions that each have made to Rugby.

“Each of them has made a significant impact in their communities and have played a role in running, growing and promoting the game in their region.

“In addition to those that have received recognition for their contribution to Rugby, I would also like to acknowledge my fellow Board member Dr Jane Wilson for her recognition as an Officer of the Order of Australia. It is a fantastic achievement, and we look forward to her continued contribution to our game.”
