Rugby Australia welcomes SANZAAR’s decision regarding Rugby Championship

Rugby Australia has today welcomed SANZAAR’s decision for Australia to be the preferred host for November’s Rugby Championship.

The matches will be primarily played in New South Wales with a round in Queensland.

Rugby Australia will now continue its discussions with its valued Government partners to ensure Australia hosts a safe and successful tournament.

Further announcements regarding the draw and ticket details will be made in the coming weeks following consultation with the New South Wales and Queensland Government as well as our SANZAAR joint venture partners.

Rugby Australia interim Chief Executive Rob Clarke said: “Firstly, I want to thank our SANZAAR partners for their support and their cooperation in making this tournament possible.

“I also want to thank our Government partners, particularly the New South Wales Government who have backed us to secure the tournament and they will be delighted to hear of SANZAAR’s support. We will now knuckle down to make these plans a reality,” Clarke said.

The postponed Tests against Ireland and Fiji that were originally scheduled for July this year will now not go ahead in 2020.

Due to the impact of Covid-19 and the ongoing national government travel, quarantine and health advice, there is no availability in the 2020 season to play these fixtures and those fans that opted to retain their ticket for the postponed Tests will now be issued a refund.
