Runners urged to plan ahead for City2Surf as race expo opens at The Hordern Pavilion

This weekend Sydney will host the City2Surf 2023, one of the world’s largest annual fun runs and police are urging participants to plan ahead.

Event organisers are expecting large crowds at The Hordern Pavilion, Moore Park, from today (Thursday 10 August 2023) through to Saturday (12 August 2023), as participants collect their race bibs and drop off their gear for the race at the City2Surf Expo.

An estimated 80,000 people are registered to take part in one of the world’s most iconic courses from Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach this Sunday (13 August 2023), so runners are urged to attend the Expo early or expect significant delays.

Operation City2Surf 2023 is a high-visibility police operation that will be in place this weekend to ensure the safety and security of all participants, event staff and the wider community.

Operation Commander, Detective Superintendent Jodi Radmore, encouraged participants to visit the three-day Expo to ensure they’re organised for race day.

“Our best advice is to plan ahead; get to the Expo early to pick-up your race bibs and drop off finish-line gear, this will help you avoid any last-minute stress.” Supt Radmore said.

“There’ll be limited time to check-in your gear on Sunday; however, you can easily do this in advance and check in with staff at the Expo in advance, and it will then be delivered to the finish line,” Supt Radmore said.

“The Expo is anticipating large crowds on Saturday, so anyone collecting their bib is advised to allocate at least two hours for their visit.”

“If you’re not able to attend the Expo yourself, a friend or family member can attend with your race information on your behalf.

“You’ll need your bib number to check your belongings and people are reminded it’s best not to leave valuables such as wallets or phones within the bags provided.”

With tens of thousands of people registered for the City2Surf, Detective Superintendent Radmore said runners should also plan their trip to the Expo by utilising the many public transport services on offer.

“There will be several other significant sporting and entertainment events taking place in an around The Hordern Pavilion during this time, so take the hassle out of travel plans and utilise public transport,” Supt Radmore said.

Superintendent Radmore also reminded runners to avoid the crowds at the CityFit Expo, by attending today (Thursday 10 August 2023) and tomorrow (Friday 12 August 2023), otherwise expect lengthy delays on Saturday (13 August 2023).
