A strategic new roadmap will govern the enforcement of parking in the City of Logan.
The City-Wide Parking Enforcement Plan 2023-2026, endorsed by Logan City Council this week, was developed after extensive consultation with the community.
More than 400 submissions were received.
Of those surveyed, 91 per cent requested more education and awareness initiatives to support improved parking practices around schools and disabled parking areas as well as a focus on narrow residential streets.
The plan recognises the critical regulatory role Council plays to ensure safe and accessible parking across the city.
It aims to foster sustainable behavioural change among local drivers.
Over the past 18 months, Council has significantly increased its investment in community parking services with a focus on safe school parking and increased use of new technological detection capabilities and data.
Lifestyle Chair Councillor Tony Hall said the plan would help address parking challenges faced by drivers and pedestrians.
“Council asked for feedback and it was pleasing to see so many local residents taking the time to respond and help shape this plan,” Cr Hall said.
“Parking can sometimes be difficult in busy areas, particularly around schools during drop-off and pickup times, so it was important this new plan provided solutions and options,” he said.
“Council wants to create an environment to reduce congestion, accidents and driver frustration through parking operations which are effective, efficient and responsive to the community.”
Initiatives to be undertaken over the next three years include:
- Increasing awareness and community education essential to safe school parking practices through a targeted marketing campaign.
- Improving signage across the city by auditing and regularly replacing damaged signs.
- Hosting awareness sessions and forums to educate the community about the appropriate use of disability parking bays.
- Connecting with Local Governments throughout Australia and maintaining international partnerships to share information on emerging parking enforcement technologies.
