Australian Festival of Chamber Music | Cairns-Gimuy | 23-31 July 2027
PLUS: Curated Concert Conversations YouTube Series Launches:
What the world’s best musicians say when they stop playing
The Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM) returns to Cairns-Gimuy from Friday 23 July to Saturday 31 July 2027, bringing nine extraordinary days of music, artists and experiences to Tropical North Queensland.
One of Australia’s most significant arts events, AFCM is the country’s major chamber music festival and the only one in the world staged in the tropics. Since 1991, it has brought musicians of national and international standing to northern Queensland, building over more than three decades an extraordinary relationship between artists, audiences and place. Set between two World Heritage wonders, the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics rainforest, AFCM is a festival unlike any other: world-class music by day and night, with reef, rainforest, food, culture and tropical winter waiting beyond the concert hall.
Following a landmark first year in its new Cairns-Gimuy home in 2026, with record ticket sales and revenue and outstanding critical acclaim, AFCM returns in 2027 with plans even bigger, broader and more musical.
One extraordinary name is already confirmed: VOCES8. EXCLUSIVELY IN CAIRNS. NOWHERE ELSE IN AUSTRALIA: In an international artistic coup, famed acclaimed British vocal ensemble VOCES8 will make its only Australian appearance of 2027 at AFCM in Cairns-Gimuy. The world’s most-streamed classical vocal group, a 2026 OPUS Klassik Award winner and 2023 Grammy-nominated ensemble, VOCES8 has taken the oldest instrument in the world in the human voice and turned it into a global phenomenon. Renowned for breathtaking precision and a repertoire that moves effortlessly across classical music, jazz and pop, VOCES8 tours the world’s great stages, but in Australia in 2027, there is only one place to hear them live: Cairns.
Can’t wait until July? For the first time, highlights from AFCM’s hugely popular Concert Conversations have been curated into a new YouTube series, capturing some of the frankest, funniest and most fascinating moments from 2026 and giving audiences everywhere a taste of what awaits in Cairns-Gimuy in 2027. The complete 2027 program, curated by internationally acclaimed violinist and AFCM Artistic Director Jack Liebeck, will be revealed in early 2027, with tickets on sale to Festival Friends and the general public, along with travel packages pairing extraordinary music with the best of Tropical North Queensland.
