School’s out so head in to cultural precinct

Explore Orange’s cultural precinct this school holidays with a range of free activities designed for children and families.

Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said the Orange Regional Museum, Orange City Library and Orange Regional Galley had joined forces to create a combined school holiday program.

“These activities will be sure to keep the kids busy and learning and they’re free, which is wonderful,” Cr Kidd said.

Orange City Council’s Services Policy Committee Chair Cr Scott Munro said the three centres in the cultural precinct had developed a joint activity program centred on their current exhibitions, programs and public artworks.

“Pick up a Creative Challenge Activity Sheet from the museum or library and work your way through 16 activities designed to encourage children and their grown-ups to explore the precinct,” Cr Munro said.

“Create your own mini outdoor sculpture, play a video game at the museum, enter the library’s LEGO and craft competitions and more.”

“There are a range of activities to suit different ages and interests and they’re all free.”

The museum is also offering free, guided family tours of their current exhibitions Code Breakers: Women in Games and Inherit: Old and New Histories.

Bookings via Eventbrite for all Museum school holiday tours are essential. All children under 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Each child attending a tour will receive a free activity pack, full of things to do at home and in the museum.

As always the library has an extensive collection of books, CDs, DVDs, and magazines ready to be borrowed for the holidays.

The library is also offering free activity kits with colouring-in and upcycling paper craft activities.

Cr Munro encouraged families to explore their own city this school break and take the time to see what was on offer in our own backyard.

“It’s easier than ever to see what’s happening in the cultural precinct during the school holidays with Orange City Council’s School Holiday Calendar,” Cr Munro said.
