Search Begins For New Inspector

SA Gov

The State Government has today acknowledged the departure of Sam Abbott KC from the role of Inspector of the Independent Commission Against Corruption, Office for Public Integrity and Ombudsman.

Mr Abbott, a leading private barrister, was appointed as Inspector in November 2024. He will continue his work at the Independent Bar.

Mr Abbott advised the State Government that he tendered his resignation to the Governor, after coming to the view that his role as a barrister at the Independent Bar in South Australia was not entirely compatible with the range of duties required to be performed in his position as Inspector.

He is only the second person to hold the office, after NSW-based barrister Philip Strickland SC.

Deputy Inspector Jocelyn Redden will act in the position of Inspector until a new appointment is made.

As put by Kyam Maher

Sam Abbott is a widely respected barrister, and has performed the important role of Inspector to the highest standard.

He has played an important role overseeing the state’s integrity system, and I thank him for his work since 2024.

I would like to thank Mr Abbott for the hard work, integrity and skill with which he has undertaken his duties.

The State Government will now begin recruitment for a new Inspector.
