Northern Territory Police have resumed search operations following yesterday’s aircraft crash in waters near Isle Woodah 50km northwest of Alyangula.
Search operations were suspended about 9pm last night and recommenced at 6.30am today.
The current search involves the Alyangula Police vessel PV Tasman Point, an Anindilyakwa Land and Sea Rangers vessel, a Nautilus Aviation helicopter and the Northern Territory Police Air Wing PC-12 fixed-wing aircraft.
Police divers are also deploying to Groote Eylandt today and will conduct underwater searches of the sea floor in the vicinity of the crash site. Divers will work to locate and recover aircraft debris and other evidence that may assist in establishing the circumstances of the crash.
Northern Territory Police are continuing to liaise closely with the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, which is providing advice to the police dive team.
Search Mission Coordinator, Acting Sergeant Nathan Conelius said police remained focused on the search and supporting those affected by the incident.
“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the pilot.
“Our focus remains locating the pilot of the aircraft and alongside our partner agencies, we will continue search efforts.”
