Second man charged after Barnawartha North shooting

A second man has been charged following a police shooting in Barnawartha North last month.

A 19-year-old man was charged on Friday, 28 June with a number of offences, including:

• Intentional exposure of police officer to risk by driving;

• Aggravated intentional exposure of police officer to risk by driving;

• Damage to emergency service vehicle by reckless driving;

• Assault police (indictable); and

• Make threats to kill.

He remains under guard in a Melbourne hospital.

A 30-year-old man has also been charged in relation to the incident and was remanded in custody.

Both will appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 9 September.

The investigation into the incident, which occurred near the Old Barnwartha Road on 12 June, is being led by detectives from the Armed Crime Squad.

This investigation is being oversighted by detectives from Professional Standards Command, as per standard protocol when there is a police shooting.
