Senate Announces New Inquiry into Regional Bank Branch Closures

We have some great news to share with you!

Last week, the Senate announced a new inquiry into regional and rural branch closures. The Rural and Regional Affairs Committee of the Senate will be responsible for the inquiry, which is due to finish in December. You can find more details on the inquiry here.

As a result of this inquiry, the CBA has announced a moratorium on their branch closures until the inquiry finishes in December. Your Union has written to the remaining CEO’s of the Big 4 Bank’s urging them to do the same.

You can read a copy of the letters here

Your FSU has fought long and hard for a proper inquiry into bank branch closures.

This inquiry is a big win for members.

The last Senate inquiry into branch closures was 20 years ago, and the former Government’s Regional Taskforce into branch closures held in 2021 was a waste of time. It didn’t consult widely enough and was run by the Banks. It was never going to suggest solutions that would stop branches from closing.

This time we get a say! As bank workers on the frontline, no one else knows how important branches are to our local communities.

Keep an eye out for our short survey – we are interested in hearing about your experiences of branch closures and their impact on you and the customers you serve.
