Senate Committee backs Job-ready Graduates

Minister for Education Dan Tehan has welcomed today’s endorsement from the Senate Standing Committee on Education and Employment of the Government’s Job-ready Graduates legislation.

“The Committee majority has endorsed our reforms that will create 100,000 more university places for Australian students, increase support for regional students and regional universities, strengthen the relationship between universities and industry and make degrees cheaper for students in areas of expected job growth,” Mr Tehan said.

“The Committee heard evidence from Vice-Chancellors and university peak bodies that our legislation should pass to provide additional university places from next year and give universities flexibility and certainty.

“I look forward to the support of the Senate in passing the Job-ready Graduates legislation to give more Australians the opportunity to benefit from a university education.

“Australia’s economic recovery from COVID-19 will be built on an educated and highly-skilled workforce that these reforms will help produce.”
