Serious assault police at West End, QLD

A police officer was transported to hospital after allegedly being punched in the head as he was trying to arrest a man during a disturbance at West End overnight.

Just before 10pm police were called to Boundary Street following reports of a large group of people involved in a street disturbance.

It will be alleged when police were taking one man into custody a second man ran at an officer, striking him once to the head before he was also taken into custody by police.

A 34-year-old male senior constable was transported to the Mater Private Hospital for treatment of a concussion. He has since been released.

A 29-year-old East Brisbane man has been charged with serious assault of a police officer causing bodily harm. He has been denied police bail and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 8.

A 32-year-old South Brisbane man was issued with a notice to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court, charged with public nuisance and obstruct police. He is due to appear on July 30.

A third man, a 29-year-old from Highgate Hill, was issued an infringement notice for obstruct police.
