Serious assaults of police and hooning operation at Robina, QLD

Police from the Gold Coast conducting Operation Victor Carve targeting hooning and anti-social behaviour have arrested a 20-year-old Boondall man and disrupted a group of approximately one hundred hoons on the Gold Coast overnight.

Police located the large group and their vehicles on Christine Avenue at Robina at 6.30pm.

The group dispersed, with members donning balaclavas and attempting to hide their identity as the vehicles fled into surrounding streets.

Police officers were targeted with rocks, bricks and other projectiles thrown at them injuring two officers and damaging a marked police van.

Specialist police from the Public Safety Response Team, accompanied by the Dog Squad and PolAir were able to take control of the crowd and several people were detained.

Some were later released, however a 20-year-old Boondall man was arrested and has been charged with two counts of serious assault of police and one count of wilful damage of Commissioner’s property.

Police maintained a presence in the area for several hours and investigations are ongoing to identify further offenders. Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the group of cars on the Gold Coast last night (May 6), or who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage, to contact them
