Parts of southern Western Australia are likely to receive a quarter of their annual rainfall in the next two days.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Catherine Schelfhout said a Severe Weather Warning is current for heavy rain and damaging wind gusts across the South East Coastal district and adjacent areas, including Norseman, Ravensthorpe, Esperance, Bremer Bay and Israelite Bay.
“The rain is likely to continue throughout Monday evening and into Tuesday before easing on Wednesday, with daily rainfall totals expected to be between 20-50 mm. Rainfall totals may reach 100-150 mm over the next two days in some locations.”
Communities across southern WA are advised of a heightened risk of flooding in rivers and creeks as well as flash flooding.
Thunderstorms could produce wind gusts of up to 90 km/h and there is a small risk of large hail.
“A cold front and a low-pressure system delivered 45.6 mm of rain to Perth over the weekend, which is already above the April average of 35.4 mm,” Ms Schelfhout said.
The Bureau is recommending communities stay up to date with the latest Bureau warnings through the Bureau’s website and BOM Weather app and follow the advice of emergency services.
