Shaping future of Parramatta

Lord mayor with delegates

The City of Parramatta has unveiled a 10-year plan to position the City as an economic powerhouse, leader in social and environmental sustainability and in working together with First Nations peoples and communities and a hub of research and innovation.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Sameer Pandey said the plan, outlined in five key strategies, will be integral to shaping the City’s future.

“We want the next 10 years to be the golden era for Parramatta,” Cr Pandey said.

“By 2040, we will be a City of more than 400,000 people and the steps we take over the next decade will determine just what the city they live in looks like.

“These strategies are about ensuring Parramatta is the best place in Australia to build a business and invest; a place where you can raise a family with access to affordable housing, education and employment opportunities and feel connected to diverse communities; a place recognised globally for its green space and green thinking.

“They will also help cement Parramatta as a smart city that attracts the best minds in the country to connect, collaborate and exchange ideas.

“Parramatta has been a gathering place for thousands of years. We are proud of this long history and excited about partnering with the Dharug community to create a shared future.”

Cr Pandey said Council is now looking for feedback on the draft strategies from residents, business and key stakeholders.

“These strategies are not intended to sit on a shelf and gather dust. We see them like a navigation app – our own tailored Google Maps – helping us get to where we want to go,” Cr Pandey said.

“Every piece of feedback will help us tailor these plans and ensure we are building a future Parramatta we can all be proud of.”
