Shellharbour is set to welcome a spectacular new way to ring in the New Year with the region’s first New Year’s Eve drone show taking to the sky as part of a major new event at The Waterfront, Shell Cove.
Skylights Shellharbour supported by the Waterfront will bring music, food and entertainment together for a free summer celebration on Thursday, 31 December, culminating in a choreographed drone display of light and sound as the sun sets.
The unique event will be presented by Shellharbour City Council, with The Waterfront, Shell Cove announced as the event’s Platinum and Naming Rights Sponsor.

Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer said Skylights Shellharbour would give the community an exciting new way to celebrate New Year’s Eve closer to home.
“New Year’s Eve is going to look a little different in Shellharbour this year and we can’t wait to share it with our community,” Mayor Homer said.
“Skylights Shellharbour will bring people together for an afternoon and evening of great food, music and entertainment before a spectacular drone display takes to the sky.
“The drone show will be a first for our region and a fantastic way to create something distinctly Shellharbour for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
Hundreds of drones will take part in the choreographed display, combining light and sound to create formations across the evening sky.
The drone show will headline a broader program of live performances, food vendors, roving entertainment and family-friendly activities, giving visitors plenty of reasons to arrive early, settle in and enjoy a summer evening by the water.
Mayor Homer welcomed The Waterfront, Shell Cove’s support of the innovative event.
“The Waterfront is a fitting home for Skylights Shellharbour and having them come on board as a major partner will help Council deliver this fantastic event,” Mayor Homer said.
Development Director Shell Cove Mathew Gulliver from The Waterfront, Shell Cove said the organisation was excited to partner with Council to bring the new event to Shellharbour.
“We’re proud to support Skylights Shellharbour and help bring a new New Year’s Eve experience to the community,” he said.
“The Waterfront is a place designed for people to come together and we’re excited to see it become the setting for an evening of music, food and entertainment, topped off by an incredible drone display.
“We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors to Shell Cove for what is sure to be a memorable event.”
Skylights Shellharbour forms part of Council’s Summer of Events, bringing together major events and activities across the city throughout the summer season.
The free event will be held from 5 – 9:30pm on Thursday 31 December at The Waterfront, Shell Cove.
