The Shire of York’s off-road vehicle area, also known as the York Motocross Track, is set to receive an upgrade with a $40,000 funding boost from the McGowan Government.
Local Government Minister John Carey announced the funding today while visiting the popular trail, which hosts motorcycles and quad bikes and features a junior track.
The improvements will include upgrades to the tracks, earthworks and vegetation buffer, toilets and signage.
The project will also receive $40,000 funding from the Shire of York.
Off-road vehicles are governed under the Control of Vehicles (Off-road Areas) Act 1978, and can only be used in areas gazetted under the Act.
They can also be used on private land with the landowner’s permission.
As stated by Local Government Minister John Carey:
“Local governments are central to generating local spaces that create a sense of community. Creating off-road vehicle areas is a great way for local governments to develop community hubs that get people of all ages out and about.
“This is an exceptional facility and a credit to the Shire of York which consistently invests in amenities that improve the liveability of the Shire.
“While this initiative is important locally, it will also increase visitors to the area.”
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Tony Buti:
“It is a priority of the McGowan Government to implement off-road vehicle reforms that make it easier for new areas to be created and existing areas to be upgraded.
“Off-road vehicle areas that are safe and well managed are fantastic places for families and people of all ages to get active and enjoy WA’s unique outdoor environment.
“Well maintained off-road vehicle areas also encourage better rider education and minimise impact on the local environments.”
