The first of four police officers killed in a horror crash on Melbourne’s Eastern Freeway will be farewelled at a private funeral today.
Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor and her colleagues Senior Constable Kevin King, Constable Glen Humphris and Constable Josh Prestney were killed in the line of duty last week when a truck crashed into them on the freeway at Kew.
Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Sam Hearn said our thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends and the Victorian Police fraternity at this sad time.
“On behalf of the Council I also want to share a message of support to our local police officers throughout the Mornington Peninsula”.
Watson Ward Councillor and Victoria Police Officer Julie Morris said the tragedy has been felt in police stations right across the state.
“I’d like to thank our local community for the flowers, cards and messages of support. The kindness we’ve seen and your words of support are encouraging and we thank you for standing beside us at this difficult time, as we mourn and reflect on the loss of our colleagues and friends”.
At the conclusion of today’s service, police officers across the state will observe a minute’s silence, forming a guard of honour at their station or by turning on the headlights of their car.
