Short list announced for IWD People’s Choice Award

For the first time, attendees at the Cairns Regional Council International Women’s Day award breakfast will be able to cast their vote for the woman they believe is most deserving of recognition.

The People’s Choice Award has been introduced to this year’s awards ceremony, which celebrates the achievements and contributions of local women to their community, through the 2020 Woman and Young Woman of the Year awards and the Cairns Hardware scholarship.

Council this morning released the list of nominees in the new award category. They are:

  • Shai Ager
  • Jill Boltz
  • Kate Boylan-Ascione
  • Rowena Bullio
  • Wendy Lawrence
  • Amanda Lee-Ross
  • Anne Russell
  • Tanya Tuttle
  • Lesley Van Staveren

The awards breakfast will be held at the Cairns Convention Centre on Friday 6 March, starting at 7.30am.

Seven News presenter and former local Sharon Ghidella will MC the event, that includes key note addresses from Professor Hurriyet Babacan (author, awarded an Order of Australia and Bi-Centenary Medal), and Roz Pulley (journalist and 2019 Woman of the Year Winner).

There will also be a fashion parade by Cairns Central retailers, live entertainment and a lucky number ticket prize valued at $1,250.

Tickets for the awards breakfast, $42 per person or $39.90 per person if booking a group of 10 or more, are available from Ticketlink:
