  • Cook Government investing in modern infrastructure to help WA students succeed
  • Cutting-edge facilities to benefit the school’s specialist performing arts students and Albany community

Albany Senior High School students will have the opportunity to further develop their skills in a new performing arts centre opened today by Premier Roger Cook and Education Minister Dr Tony Buti.

The $9 million project has delivered a performing arts centre with retractable seating for 200 and space for an additional 50 loose seats if required, plus a large stage, green room, store rooms, foyer and specialist music facilities.

Albany Senior High School has a long-standing tradition of performing arts and music, with a strong music and ensemble program, a dynamic Instrumental Music School Services program, and a variety of showcase events.

The new performing arts centre enables students to learn a variety of performance skills in a professional, industry-standard environment.

It will ensure students have opportunities to develop the necessary expertise to move into employment in the performing arts industry.

In 2022-23 the State Government invested $595 million in education infrastructure.

The new centre is one of more than 60 education infrastructure building and upgrade projects completed in the past 12 months.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

“My Government is committed to investing in state-of-the-art education facilities to help Western Australian students reach their potential.

“The impressive new performing arts centre at Albany Senior High School will provide students with a modern facility where they can learn their craft and follow their passion.

“This cutting-edge performing arts centre is one of many education infrastructure projects the State Government has successfully delivered.”

As stated by Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:

“I know this fantastic new performing arts centre is a welcome addition, not only for performing arts students, but for the entire school community.

“With these modern facilities, students will have exciting opportunities to hone and develop their skills with their peers, as well as increase their level of expertise to help them move into employment in the performing arts industry.

“I look forward to seeing the creativity of the Albany students continue to thrive in this new facility, which I am sure will play host to some spectacular performances to entertain the local community for many years to come.”

As stated by Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens:

“Albany is an arts-driven community, full of immensely talented people who excel in the creative space. I know that this incredible new venue, at the school I attended and graduated from, is going to add enormous value to the creative quest of Albany Senior High School students, as well as to the performance opportunities available to the community as a whole.

“I know many former students will have memories, like I do, of sitting school exams and undertaking other activities in the former Youth Centre.

“I look forward to watching this new state-of-the-art venue activated with our incredible local talent.”
