Significant interest in Pakington North Precinct Community Panel

There are two weeks left to express your interest and apply for the Pakington North Precinct Community Panel.

The City has received a significant number of applications from community members keen to collaborate and co-design a new Urban Design Framework (UDF) for the Pakington North Precinct. This framework will help to guide future enhancements and development of the area, including new housing, increased canopy cover and additional public open space.

A UDF for Pakington Street’s Heritage Core and Gordon Avenue has already been adopted.

We need at least 60 residents, visitors to the area and land and business owners of all ages and backgrounds to participate in six in-person sessions. For example, we are seeking more applications from people who are aged under 24, applicants of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander origin, people born overseas or for whom English is not their first language, apartment dwellers and those from one parent families or group households.

The session schedule will be facilitated by Capire Consulting:

Session 1: Setting the Scene and Understanding the Drivers for Change

Thursday, 8 February 5.30 – 8.30pm

Session 2: The Public Realm

Saturday 10 February 12.30 – 5.30pm

Session 3a: Built Form

Thursday, 29 February 6.00 – 8.30pm

Session 3b: Built Form

Thursday, 7 March 6.00 – 8.30pm

Session 4: Access and Movement

Saturday, 16 March 12.30 – 5.30pm

Session 5: UDF Endorsement (led by the City)

Thursday, 18 April 6:00 – 8:00pm

Mayor Trent Sullivan

It is exciting that the Pakington North Precinct Community Panel had attracted so much interest.

Council thanks the many community members who have taken the time to apply for the community panel.

We encourage anyone else considering applying to come forward, as we want to have a diverse range of voices in this collaborative approach.

The City wants to hear the community’s vision for the area and also increase understanding of how a UDF will facilitate enhancements and sustainable development.

Junior Mayor Irene Mulilo

I encourage young people to apply for the Pakington North Precinct Community Panel.

People under 24 years old have diverse and interesting perspectives that deserve to be heard in discussions about the Pakington North Precinct.

Young people spend a lot of time in and around Pako and have an interest in the area’s accessibility, environment, atmosphere and housing availability.

If you’re passionate about the precinct and are available for the session dates, please visit yoursay.geelongaustralia.com.au/pakonorthcommunitypanel and apply.

Expressions of Interest to join the Pakington North Precinct Community Panel will be accepted until 11.59pm on Wednesday 6 December.

The community’s ideas and insights will help to form a new UDF and way forward for the area, before coming to Council for adoption mid-next year.

As a token of gratitude, participants will receive $100 after the six sessions and remunerated pro-rata. All sessions will be fully catered.
