Police have recovered more than a quarter of a tonne of methamphetamine concealed amongst a shipment of beer, and that figure is expected to increase.
Auckland City’s Organised Crime Unit has been investigating the shipment which resulted in a search warrant executed in Ryan Place, Manukau in early March.
So far 328 kilograms of methamphetamine has been recovered in crystalised form from the industrial address.
Analysis is continuing into methamphetamine in liquid form that was recovered at the same time.
This is a significant volume of work and Police will provide further updates once this analysis is completed. Police anticipate the total quantity of methamphetamine recovered to increase.
Two men remain before the Court on serious drugs charges and we cannot rule out further charges being laid in this investigation.
- BEER CAN WARNING UPDATE:
At this stage Police have not recovered any further cans of the ‘Honey Bear House Beer’ circulating in the community.
However, the Police warning the public stands.
Police advise anyone who may still have one of these ‘Honey Bear House Beer’ cans to not drink it and to contact Police immediately by phoning our 105 phone service quoting the file number 230310/6793.
Consuming beer contaminated with methamphetamine may have serious or fatal medical consequences.
