Horsham Rural City Council has approved a plan to upgrade Horsham Skate Park.
The Skate Park is set to receive much-needed upgrades and extensions in a bid to create a more active, diverse and accessible public space for the city.
Councillors approved a Concept Plan at the April 24 Meeting. The approval enables the plan to be further detailed and staged, and opens opportunities to seek external funding for the proposed works.
Located on the corner of Natimuk Road and Park Drive and in close proximity to the city centre – currently lacks landscaping, accessible equipment and utilities, shade protection and signage.
Plans to add a playground, fitness equipment and improve the dirt bike tracks located behind the bowl were also approved.
“The Skate Park is an under-used public space and isn’t an accessible space for a lot of community members,” Mayor Robyn Gulline said.
“Currently the space is mainly used by young boys and men. These upgrades will create a comfortable space for current users and women and families.
“Once the upgrades are complete, there’s also the opportunity to host three-four annual events at the Skate Park each year which will only benefit our community.”
