Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has revoked a notice issued to recycler SKM Services Pty Ltd that applied to its Coolaroo site, following inspections by EPA officers on Wednesday 17 July that determined the site had been brought back into compliance with the Victorian Waste Management Policy.
The notice issued for the Coolaroo site did not require the company to cease accepting new materials for processing.
EPA issued SKM with a notice on 19 June 2019 that required the company to bring its outdoor stockpiles at its Maffra Street, Coolaroo facility into compliance with the Victorian Waste Management Policy by 3 July 2019, with an extension granted to 17 July 2019.
EPA granted the extension with strict conditions that included an increase of inspections at the site and it was stated that if stockpiled waste was observed to increase, EPA would require the company to cease accepting waste at the Coolaroo site.
The facility, which processes large amounts of household recyclables collected by local Councils, can now operate normally but can expect regular monitoring to continue and EPA will not hesitate to take further strong remedial action if any of the company’s sites fail to comply with the Policy.
Another of the company’s sites in Laverton North was required by EPA to cease accepting waste on 10 July due to non-compliance with the Victorian Waste Management Policy. However, EPA determined on 13 July that compliance had been reached and the site was able to resume receiving new materials at the site.
