SONIKA Records’ artists tune up for album launch

Ballarat’s young music talent will hold a listen party and merchandise workshop today as it gears up for its SONIKA Records album launch, and the last ever all-ages event, at Karova Lounge on Sunday 18 August.

As part of the SONIKA Records’ free new music industry development program for artists aged 12-25, an initiative of the City of Ballarat’s Youth Development team, the 22 musicians spanning local acts have each recorded an original music single in the same Melbourne studio, Kool Skools, that kick-started the music careers of Delta Goodrem and Missy Higgins.

The acts have also experienced a promotional photo shoot and are gaining vital industry and performance experience, including exploring music industry tips on marketing and networking, booking gigs, self-management and performance planning.

The local acts include –

  • Lotus Eyes – indie folk/pop

  • Leftfield Luxury – noise rock

  • Milla Williams – indie pop

  • Roopan – hiphop/rap

  • Cody Michaels – country

  • Blessed For Life

  • Shon Dunn – guitar and vox, occasional loop pedal

  • Meraki Minds – indie pop

  • Tilly and Charlotte – relaxed pop/indie/acoustic

  • Jade Moran – pop rock

  • Paige Perry – acoustic folk

The SONIKA Records album will be released for sale to the public at the album launch party on Sunday 18 August, which will feature performances from participating artists. The all-ages alcohol and drug-free event will take place between 1-5pm. Entry is $5 and can be purchased at the door.

Ballarat live music venues and booking agents will also receive a copy of the album, which will help them consider these acts at future live music events.

Each song will also be entered into a wider competition with councils and schools, with an ARIA-style awards night set to be held later this year.

Musicians and bands will be able to use their recording to upload to Triple J Unearthed, iTunes, Spotify, Soundcloud.

This new music industry program is replacing the Push Start Comp/Battle of the Bands.
