Sorrento is flowing smoothly thanks to Hotham Road upgrades

Residents, visitors and commuters alike are benefitting from recent upgrades to the intersection at Hotham Road and Point Nepean Road in Sorrento.

Managed by Mornington Peninsula Shire, completed works include the installation of a roundabout, street lighting, footpaths, raised pedestrian crossings, road pavement and 25 carparking bays on Hotham Road, between The Esplanade and Point Nepean Road.

Combined, these upgrades are helping to improve the safety of drivers, bike riders and pedestrians and to improve the flow of traffic to and from the town centre. Now, the area is safer and more convenient for locals and visitors, particularly during ferry unloading times and the busy summer period.

The intersection upgrades are part of a $2.5 million project funded by the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions. The Shire has also worked closely with the Department of Transport and Planning (VicRoads) throughout the project.

Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Simon Brooks:

“Keeping our community safe when they are travelling to and from the commercial centre is essential, particularly during the peak holiday season.”

Quotes attributable to Nepean Ward Councillor Sarah Race:

“These intersection upgrades now give ferry vehicles and visitors to Sorrento an alternative route. Along with the additional parking spaces on Hotham Road, these upgrades have helped to ease congestion around town and make it safer for those travelling by foot, bike or car.”
