There have been 3,707 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 24,901 active cases in South Australia.
Sadly, SA Health can confirm a woman in her 60s and a woman in her 90s who tested positive for COVID-19 passed away in metropolitan Adelaide. The women acquired COVID-19 in South Australia.
There are 144 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including 16 people in ICU and one requiring a ventilator.
Of those hospitalised, 87 people are fully vaccinated, 14 are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and 43 have an unknown vaccination status.
As at 7 January 2021 more than 100 aged care facilities in SA have reported positive COVID-19 cases, with over 300 positive staff members 260 positive residents across all sites.
Due to a reconfiguration of the data, seven cases from yesterday have been removed from the total number of cases.

Variants
Regular genome sampling is taken to monitor the levels of Omicron within South Australia. Eighty one percent of samples taken returned an Omicron result.

Yesterday, 20,489 people received a PCR test in South Australia, a 6.9% percent increase on the previous 24 hours.
Vaccination update
Currently 92.8% of eligible South Australians aged 12+ have received their first dose of the vaccine, 88.7% have received their second dose and there were 16,548 booster shots given yesterday bringing the total booster shots to 215,166.
