Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in South Yarra last night.
Investigators believe two men were involved in an altercation at the intersection of Essex and Malvern Roads about 11pm.
One of the men, believed to be in his 40s, suffered suspected stab wounds to his upper boy.
He was transported to hospital where he later died.
The other man fled the scene.
