Dandenong Fire Brigade’s rescue truck has been named in honour of Leading Firefighter Neil Poulton following his passing mid-last year.
The brigade wished to commemorate Neil’s outstanding efforts in training and responding on the rescue truck during his time with Dandenong Fire Brigade by displaying his name on the vehicle.
The 49-year-old helped many fellow firefighters obtain their rescue increments and went on to become one of CFA’s rescue instructors.
Neil kicked off his CFA career when he joined Berwick Fire Brigade in 1992 before he transferred to Pakenham and later worked across Dandenong, Doveton, Hallam and Pakenham as a Leading Firefighter.
Throughout his 17-year career, Neil attended many complex incidents, including a call he responded to in Berwick where a car had been crushed under a truck. The rescue operation was so complex it presented him the opportunity to RAR conferences across Australia to explain the procedure he was involved in executing at the scene of the incident.
Donations from the community to a GoFundMe account and contributions made by CFA volunteers and staff, which totalled $18,500, was gifted to Neil’s family in the wake of his passing.
