Officers from Moorabool Highway Patrol nabbed a driver travelling 73km over the speed limit last night in Balliang East.
The 42-year-old driver was detected driving at an alleged speed of 173km/h in a 100km/h speed zone, while police were conducting mobile speed detection duties east-bound on Ballan Road about 6.30pm.
The Werribee man, who was travelling with his 14-year-old son in the passenger seat, is expected to receive a summons for exceeding the speed limit and speed dangerous.
His VW Golf was impounded at a cost $1425 for 30 days.
