Speeding motorcyclist caught at Bridgewater

A motorcyclist has been reported after he was caught speeding on the South Eastern Freeway at Bridgewater.

Just before 8pm tonight (Wednesday 8 November 2023), patrols detected a Honda motorcycle allegedly travelling at 155km/h in a 110km/h zone on the down track of the South Eastern Freeway. The patrol didn’t pursue the bike for safety reasons, but was able to provide information to police communications, which allowed the bike to be tracked using traffic cameras.

The motorbike was observed travelling at speeds of approximately 120km/h through the Heysen Tunnels where currently roadworks are occurring, and the speed is restricted to 40km/h.

Police caught up with the bike and its rider a short time later, parked in a service station on the corner of Portrush Road and Glen Osmond Road.

Checks on the bikes registration revealed it was unregistered since June 2023. The bad news was only just beginning for the rider, with checks on his licence revealing his permit motorcycle licence had expired in October 2022. The driver was also drug tested and returned a positive result to methamphetamine.

A search of the man also found him to be in possession of drug suspected of being methamphetamine, and another drug suspected of being fantasy.

The 30-year-old man from Balhannah has been reported for driving at excessive speed, speed dangerous, manner dangerous, expired licence, unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, possessing a controlled drug and drug driving. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

His Honda motorcycle was impounded for 28 days and he received an instant loss of licence for 12 months.
