Speedster nabbed in Sunbury

Fawkner Highway Patrol officers caught a driver allegedly travelling at more than 100km/h over the speed limit in Sunbury this morning.

A Kia Stinger was clocked travelling at 228km/h in a 110km zone on the Calder Freeway near Gap Road about 11.05am.

Officers intercepted the vehicle and the 39-year-old male driver had his car immediately impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1005.

The Sunbury man was arrested for conduct endangering life, speed dangerous and other traffic related offences.

Sergeant Dean Pickering said the reckless behaviour put road users at risk.

“If this went wrong it would have ended in twisted metal and instant death,” Sgt Pickering.

“To put it into perspective this driver is 118km/h above the limit.

“We are somewhat speechless that someone would make a decision so bad.”
