The best young cricketers from outside Brisbane will converge on Cairns this year, following a $25,000 grant provided by Council to the Cairns Cricket Association.
The funding will allow Cairns Cricket, in partnership with the Bulls Masters, to deliver the Country Challenge (29 October-3 November) and the Youth Cup (12-16 December).
The two events are expected to bring 4900 people to the region, generating $1.7 million in direct and indirect spending.
In separate funding, Council will provide $18,000 to see a return of the Great Barrier Reef Ocean Swim Series.
First held in 2021, the ocean swim series (2 & 4 September and 22 October), is expected to attract 1675 visitors to the region for an economic boost of $1.4 million.
