Singing in a choir is one thing, performing in sign language is another.
And that’s exactly what St. Mary’s Primary School choir will be doing in the pre-show entertainment at this year’s Christmas Carols in the Park.
The Hampton school have been working hard on their performance ahead of the Dendy Park event on Tuesday 12 December.
St. Mary’s choir teacher, Veronica Del Castillo, is leading her excited young charges in the pre-show entertainment.
“I am incredibly proud of our Choir students who have not only been showing such dedication but also such a positive energy into every rehearsal,” Veronica said.
“I am so excited to see them all shine and light up the stage!”
Inclusion has played a significant role in choir practice, with students rehearsing two carols in Auslan (Australian Sign Language).
Veronica said the work has provided invaluable life lessons for her pupils.
“When we we’re invited to perform for the Bayside Carols, I saw it not only as an exciting opportunity to share our school’s love for music on a big stage but also as an opportunity for our students to gain a deeper insight into the beautiful language of Auslan; applying this skill in our performances for all members of our community to enjoy!”
Join us Tuesday 12 December at Dendy Park to celebrate the festive season with your family and friends. Pre-event activities start at 5.30pm. Fireworks start at 9:30pm (weather permitting).
