Science & Technology Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of new members to its Executive Committee who were elected at STA’s Annual General Meeting today.
Newly elected executive members include:
Vice President – Tanya Ha
Treasurer – Judith Dawes (re-elected)
Early Career Representative – Lee Constable
Ordinary member – Mark Bazzacco
Today’s AGM also marked the start of Dr Jeremy Brownlie’s term as STA’s President.
Dr Brownlie has spent twelve months as President-elect working together with outgoing President Professor Emma Johnston. Today she officially completed her two-year term and handed over the reins to Jeremy.
Dr Brownlie said he is proud to lead Science & Technology Australia and the 80,000+ scientists and technologists the organisation represents, and he congratulated Emma for her achievements over the past two years.
“Emma has been a strong voice for the science, technology, engineering and mathematics sectors, and I look forward to continuing on her good work.
“It is clear that STA has an exciting future with some big opportunities ahead and I hope to contribute to its next chapter. In particular, I will be looking for ways to promote equity, diversity and the value of Indigenous knowledge during my time as President.
“I thank Emma for her stewardship over the past two years. She has worked tirelessly to advocate for strong investment into the sector, she has been an unwavering champion of diversity and inclusion, and she has been committed to building the science and technology workforce that Australia needs,” Dr Brownlie said.
Dr Brownlie also welcomed the new Executive Committee members and thank the outgoing members for their service.
“I look forward to working alongside this passionate group of people and I welcome the enthusiasm and diverse perspectives they bring. Our new leadership team reflects the wider STEM community that we serve and represent.
“On behalf of Science & Technology Australia, I also thank the outgoing members of our Executive Committee, Sue Barrell and Zoe Doubleday, who today completed their terms as STA Board Members. They have been integral to the important advances STA has made over the past few years, and I wish them all well in the future.
Dr Brownlie’s first major event as STA’s President will be Science meets Parliament, which kicks off in Canberra tomorrow.
