Start planning your 2021 with new heritage calendar

Frocks from the 1920s, ’40s swimwear and ’80s active-wear are celebrated in the 2021 Cultural Heritage Calendar, Isn’t it fabulous: Celebrating fashion we love to remember, featuring 15 images spanning Sunshine Coast fashion from the 1910s to 1980s.

The annual Sunshine Coast Council Heritage Calendar is produced to celebrate our region’s history through community memories captured on film.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said the 2021 heritage calendar provided the community with a window into the life and style of Sunshine Coast locals from more than a century ago.

“The images in this year’s calendar have been drawn from the private collections of six local residents, who were winners of the heritage calendar photo competition and council’s own Picture Sunshine Coast collection,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“I would like to thank the competition winners – Lenore Meldrum, Gwenneth Davis, Cheryl Parsons, Jenny Catalano, Kennedy Fox and Leonie Neil – for sharing their personal photos for all our community to enjoy.”

Community Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said flipping through this year’s exceptional calendar was like taking a stroll down the historical catwalk of Sunshine Coast fashion.

“It brings a smile to your face to look back at fashion over the years and see how it reflected our Sunshine Coast lifestyle,” Cr Baberowski said.

“The calendar is a great conversation starter, and a fun way to lightly step back in time each month and relive the memories of our fashion choices. I wonder how many of these styles will make a comeback.”

The Isn’t it fabulous: Celebrating fashion we love to remember 2021 cultural heritage calendar is now available for purchase from council’s library branches and Customer Service Centres for only $6.

The six winners selected for inclusion in the calendar each have their photo credited and received a large canvas print of their winning entry.

The calendar is proudly supported by the Sunshine Coast Council Heritage Levy.

Council’s Picture Sunshine Coast image collection can be accessed by the community via Sunshine Coast Libraries.
