State Government to hold roundtable with all Mayors

The Marshall Government has congratulated all candidates for putting themselves forward in the 2018 local government elections and pledged to work collaboratively with all councils across the state.

“I want to congratulate every candidate across South Australia who ran for Mayor or Councillor in their local area – it takes commitment to put yourself forward to earn the trust of the local community,” said Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll.

“It’s very positive to see so many women elected to leadership positions across the state, with a number of new female Mayors elected, along with many female Councillors.

“The State Government will continue to build on its constructive relationships with the local government sector, and work collaboratively to get the best outcomes for SA when it comes to infrastructure and economic growth.”

The Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government will hold a roundtable with all Mayors before the end of the year to discuss the key policies and programs through which the State Government and Local Government collaborate.

“I will be inviting all Mayors from across regional SA and metropolitan Adelaide to participate in a roundtable before the end of the year to discuss the key priorities of the local government sector and how the State Government can partner with the sector to deliver for ratepayers,” said Mr Knoll.

“This will be an opportunity for new and re-elected Mayors to put forward their plans and priorities for their respective local areas, as well as having a broader discussion on local government and economic development.

“The election of new Councils offers the opportunity for a fresh start and new era of a productive working relationship between the State Government and local government sector.”
