Statement regarding listeriosis
Meals on Wheels services hold client health and well-being as a top priority.
One food business that supplies some Meals on Wheels services in Victoria has been linked to a case of listeriosis.
Meals on Wheels Australia understands that the Yarra Ranges, Knox, Monash and Ballarat Council Meals on Wheels programs have been affected.
This is of deep concern to our organisation and those Meals on Wheels services are working closely with Victorian health authorities to ensure that no potentially contaminated meals are delivered to consumers.
Local, direct communication is underway in those communities and on Council websites.
Meals on Wheels services are providing information about the symptoms of listeriosis to consumers who may have received a potentially contaminated meal so that they can seek prompt medical attention.
We strongly encourage anyone who is concerned to contact their local council or Meals on Wheels provider.
We would also advise anyone in the affected council areas to avoid eating any frozen or chilled meals they may have in their fridge until they have spoken with their council or meals provider.
