Brimbank Council has welcomed the end of lockdown announced by the Victorian Government and the move into the Third Step, which sees Melbourne on the road to reopening.
It’s been a long and difficult journey for Brimbank as well as other areas, and we are very glad to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Under the Third Step and from 11.59pm on Tuesday 27 October, there are no more restrictions on reasons to leave home, cafes, restaurants and pubs can open, and remaining retail can also reopen. Beauty and personal care services can also resume, and outdoor contact sport is allowed for people 18 and under and outdoor non-contact sport is allowed for adults and people 18 and under, with certain limitations.
This easing of restrictions is welcome because it will benefit our community and local businesses who have been severely impacted by the lockdown. On behalf of Council I’d like to thank the community for their ongoing patience.
We’re excited that the move to the Third Step also means Brimbank Council can reopen some Council spaces for more use, such as:
- From Wednesday 28 October, outdoor contact sport for those aged 18 and under and noncontact sport for adults and people 18 and under is allowed at our sportsgrounds with limits, as organised by sports clubs using the grounds
- From Wednesday 28 October, the participant limit at the Sunshine Leisure Centre Outdoor Pool increases to 50 per session – please book via our website www.leisurecentres.brimbank.vic.gov.au
- From Monday 2 November, Outdoor Group Fitness Classes will be available at Sunshine Leisure Centre (maximum of 10 per group) – all bookings via our website www.leisurecentres.brimbank.vic.gov.au
- From Wednesday 4 November, Brimbank’s Resource Recovery Centre in Keilor Park will reopen
In anticipation of the further easing during November under the Victorian Government roadmap, Council is also planning to offer more services at later stages.
Subject to the Victorian Government going ahead with further easing of restrictions, from Monday 9 November:
- Indoor Pool sessions will be available at Sunshine Leisure Centre, with a maximum of 20 people per pool per session – all bookings via our website
- Learn to swim classes and swimming squads will re-commence, and members will be notified via email
- Indoor Group Fitness classes and Gym sessions will be available with restrictions, all bookings via our website
- Our five public libraries will re-open in line with the eased restrictions; a maximum of 10 people in a space for a maximum of one hour per person. Services will include computer/internet use, study, photocopying and printing, click and collect, limited browsing of collections and a new service, click and collect printing
- Library to Your Door service will continue to be offered to customers who cannot visit the library
- Maternal and Child Health services return to face to face appointments, Telehealth and/or telephone consultations for all children 0-3.5 years
As always, the health and safety of our community and staff is our top priority. Please continue to do the right thing and follow whatever restrictions are in place, including wearing your mask.
In line with Victorian Government public health requirements, there will be physical distancing requirements, and other measures to protect the health of anyone involved in providing or receiving these services.
Council is also working to support Brimbank to safely start to open up again.
Food businesses interested in setting up outdoor dining, can apply for a free COVID-19 temporary outdoor dining permit.
As local restaurants, cafes and businesses prepare to reopen, Council is asking the community to show its Brimbank pride – think, shop, buy, and dine local to support our local businesses who have done it tough.
As local businesses re-open, we also need to support them by making sure customers have fair access to parking. Please remember that time limits apply to green sign parking bays. Please stay safe and avoid a fine by following the signs.
In line with earlier easing of restrictions, Brimbank Council parks, playgrounds, off-leash dog parks, outdoor exercise equipment, skate parks and public BBQ facilities as well as the Sunshine Leisure Centre outdoor pool (limits and restrictions apply) and Keilor Golf Course (limits and restrictions apply) remain open.
Also in line with Victorian Government restrictions, some Council facilities and services remain temporarily closed. This includes our customer service centres, Brimbank community centres and neighbourhood houses, community halls and meeting rooms, the St Albans Community Centre and art exhibition spaces as well as the Keilor Basketball Netball Stadium.
Council staff who can work from home will continue to work from home. As we have done during lockdown, essential services, such as household waste collection, immunisation, meals delivery, personal care, roads and cleansing, parks maintenance, health and building inspections will continue as normal. Council’s customer service centres can also be contacted by phone or online.
