Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper

Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper has passed. There will be no further warnings associated with the cyclone.

Barron River: Minor flood warning

Minor flooding is continuing at Kamerunga Bridge and Cairns Airport.

Rainfall totals up to 600 mm have been recorded over the Barron River catchment since 9:00 am Wednesday. Persistent heavy rain and storm activity will become more isolated into Friday afternoon with rainfall totals beginning to ease.

The Barron River at Kamerunga Bridge is likely to remain above the minor flood level (5.00 m) into Friday afternoon. Some small, renewed rises are possible.

The Barron River at Cairns Airport is expected to remain around the minor flood level (2.50 m) during Friday morning. Some small rises due to rainfall overnight and tidal influences may occur.

Mulgrave River and Russell Rivers

Rainfall totals of 270 – 500 mm have been recorded over the Mulgrave and Russell catchments in the 2 days to 9:00 am Friday. Rainfall is forecast to continue for the remainder of Friday and into the weekend.

Multiple minor to moderate flood peaks have been observed along the Mulgrave and Russell Rivers since Wednesday. Further renewed rises are currently occurring, with moderate flooding.

Mulgrave River: Moderate flood warning

  • Renewed near moderate flooding at Peets Bridge
  • Renewed moderate flooding possible at Gordonvale

Renewed river level rises are occurring along the Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge following a moderate flood peak Thursday afternoon. The river is currently at 7.25 m, over the moderate flood level (7.00 m) and rising. The river level may reach around 7.60 m late Friday morning. Further rainfall may cause renewed river level rises.

Renewed river level rises are occurring along the Mulgrave River at Gordonvale following a minor flood peak during Thursday evening. The river is currently at 13.70 metres, above the minor flood level (12.00 m) and rising. The Mulgrave River at Gordonvale may reach the moderate flood level (14.60 m) Friday afternoon.

Flood warning: Russell River

River and creek levels are elevated within the Russell River catchment with minor flooding occurring at Clyde Rd.

If it’s flooded, forget it

Residents should never walk, ride or drive through flood waters. Motorists are reminded to always drive to the conditions and obey all road closure signs and detours.
