Stilling one to beat in 2WD class at Adelaide Hills rally

A field of 47 rally cars of which an impressive 28 entries are registered for the CAMS Australian Rally Championship’s fifth round will be competing on roads in the picturesque Adelaide Hills from 20-22 September.

Competing in the Australian Rally Championship in the 2WD class is Trevor Stilling, a veteran of car rallying and winner of the 2017 classic rally challenge series. Stilling will be looking to gain further points in his class in the Australian Rally Championship at the Adelaide Hills Rally this weekend.

Stilling badly injured his back in a significant crash during the 2018 classic outback trial in Alice Springs and has only recently made a successful return to racing.

Stilling, a veteran Canberra driver, has a string of successes in rallying having driven mainly Datsuns for over 30 years. Stilling’s codriver Larisa Biggar from Queensland also has a long list of successes more recently finishing third in class in the Targa Barrier Reef rally aboard a BMW.

Stilling is a strong favorite to win his class and finish in the top placings after his third-place class win in the Ballarat fourth round of the Australian Rally Championship series held last month. This strong result was despite testing and bedding down the newly built Nissan Silvia during the event.

Impressed by his list of prior wins and current performance the internationally recognised Simply Music Management has joined his existing sponsors for the rest of the 2019 season.

Stilling’s red Cooma Nissan Silvia is distinctive and bears the number 95 on its sides which stood out in its debut performance at Ballarat recently. Stilling will be starting 13th car off the grid from 47 cars competing in the event. The Nissan Silvia car was a favorite with spectators during the special stages of the Ballarat Australian championship rally held last month.

Stilling almost didn’t make it to the event but thanks to SA local Mt Barker business, Mechanical and Exhaust, for the significant support they provided in repairs to the Stilling racing Nissan and trailer.

Trevor Stilling will be out to improve on his third class placing from the Ballarat round of the Australian Rally Championship and will be looking to outperform his 2WD rivals in the Adelaide Hills rally aboard the Manning Kalaru, Endurance Automotive, Waterhouse Performance V-Sport Canberra Nissan Silvia.

The Adelaide Hills Rally will cover 214 competitive kilometres over 20 stages from Friday through to Sunday this weekend, including a Super Special Stage at The Bend Motorsport Park, where competitors race two-by-two on the Stadium Circuit.
